FSMA

Since the issuance of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) in 2011, the United States has updated its regulations related to food safety with an emphasis on prevention.

Several rules have been published since then. The ones that have the most impact on KHI, its suppliers and customers are:

  • Preventive Controls for Human Foods: Food manufacturers are required to comply with updated good manufacturing practices (GMPs), update their hazard analysis and implement supply-chain controls.

  • Intentional Adulteration: Food manufacturers are required to create a documented Food Defense Plan that includes vulnerability assessment and mitigation strategies.

  • Foreign Supplier Verification Program: Importers of food are required to approve their suppliers based on risk assessment.
